Position Summary:

INDATEL Services is looking for a well-rounded Sr. Network Engineer who can operate across network engineering, network security, and cybersecurity. This role owns the security posture of our carrier network and internal systems while contributing to day-to-day network operations, service delivery, and special projects. The right candidate is comfortable in a small, hands-on team where the work spans routing and switching one day, firewall policy and incident response the next, and Linux tooling or automation scripting after that.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Network Engineering & Operations
    • Provision, test, and support carrier Ethernet and IP/MPLS (SR-MPLS) services, including circuit test and turn-up, adds/moves/changes, and outage recovery.
    • Support and troubleshoot Ciena-based transport and packet platforms across the network.
    • Partner with the NOC on escalations, root cause analysis, and restoring customer services with a customer-experience-first mindset.
    • Maintain accurate network documentation, diagrams, and IP address management.

    Network Security

    • Administer firewalls, ACLs, VPNs, and network segmentation for the carrier network and corporate environment.
    • Harden network elements: AAA (TACACS+/RADIUS), role-based access, secure management plane, and configuration standards.
    • Run vulnerability scanning and patch/lifecycle management for network infrastructure.
    • Support routing security practices (prefix filtering, RPKI) and DDoS detection/mitigation.

    Cybersecurity

    • Monitor, triage, and respond to security events using SIEM and log analysis tools.
    • Participate in incident response: containment, remediation, root cause, and lessons learned.
    • Conduct periodic security assessments and support compliance and audit activities aligned to frameworks such as NIST CSF.
    • Contribute to security policies, standards, and awareness across the organization.

    Systems, Linux & Automation

    • Administer Linux servers supporting network tooling (monitoring, syslog, NetFlow, DNS/NTP).
    • Support internal IT systems, virtualization, and identity/access management.
    • Build scripts and automation (Python, Bash, Ansible, APIs) for provisioning, monitoring, reporting, and repetitive operational tasks.
    • Use version control (Git) for scripts and configuration artifacts.

    Special Projects

    • Lead or support cross-functional projects: network upgrades, migrations, new service rollouts, security initiatives, and vendor/tool evaluations.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years (Engineer II) or 5+ years (Engineer III) of hands-on network engineering experience.
  • Solid routing and switching fundamentals: BGP, OSPF or IS-IS, MPLS/SR-MPLS, carrier Ethernet.
  • Hands-on experience administering firewalls, VPNs, and network access controls.
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity operations: log analysis, event triage, vulnerability management, incident response.
  • Linux administration experience (RHEL/Rocky, Debian/Ubuntu, or similar).
  • Scripting ability in Python and/or Bash; comfort working with APIs.
  • Strong troubleshooting discipline, clear documentation habits, and the ability to communicate technical issues to customers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Carrier or service provider experience; rural broadband/ILEC environment a plus.
  • Experience with Ciena platforms (5170, 5164, 8114) and SR-MPLS deployments.
  • Experience with SIEM platforms, vulnerability scanners, and endpoint security tools.
  • Network automation experience (Ansible, NETCONF/RESTCONF, Python libraries such as Netmiko/NAPALM).
  • Relevant certifications or progress toward them: CCNP, Security+, CySA+, RHCSA, JNCIS, or CISSP.
